Wool was known in the Roman Empire and archeologists discovered a fragment of woolen cloth dating to 1500 BC in Denmark. In the British Isles, sheep wool was woven into fabric as long ago as the 1200s. Today, wool shawls make versatile wraps from early autumn through spring.
