Now Priori believes alpaca has changed his life, at a personal and professional level!
Born in Lima on December 11, 1965, Jorge Priori began to work in textiles at the beginning of the 1990s, prompted by his uncle. He foresaw Priori's natural inclinations towards textiles as well as his flair for innovation. His father had a thread factory and Priori began to work with him. By 2001, they had diversified into the creation of a diversity of alpaca wool garments, accessories and blankets.
At this same place he met Milva, they fell in love and eventually married. Now Priori believes alpaca has changed his life, at a personal and professional level!
Priori seeks to preserve through his work a tradition that began centuries ago, during the Inca empire. The Incas gave the alpaca an important place in society and religion; alpaca fiber was so highly treasured it was reserved for Inca royalty.
"Our clothes and blankets are created with the 'combed' technique which uses threads of different length and width, with the intention of recreating the type of weave the Incas favored," explains Priori.
Priori's alpaca wool products showcase the material's unique attributes. Alpaca wool is produced in less quantity per year than cashmere, yet it is considered a luxury fiber because it is as soft as cashmere and has the luster of silk. It is as durable as wool, and the fleece is extraordinarily light and warm – up to five times warmer than sheep's wool. This is because the fiber is semi-hollow and curly, thus creating microscopic air pockets that are ideal for insulation.
Highly valued by the fashion industry, alpaca wool is considered one of the most exclusive of fibers. It is so versatile it is used in the creation of tweeds and fine gabardines. Alpaca fiber is naturally water resistant and wrinkles less than wool, which makes it ideal for travel. Compared to wool, alpaca fibers are stronger, resilient and of good elasticity. Any garment made with alpaca fibers is certain to preserve its appearance over time.
Alpacas are members of the camelid family; they are about the size of a pony and live up to 20 years. Because of their value, alpacas are carefully protected and they are shorn only once a year – each alpaca can produce enough fiber for up to eight sweaters.
They also make good and loyal pets and many owners say they are just like man's best friend. They are gentle and enjoy hugging and they are sometimes used as "therapy animals" in schools and hospitals. They do not bite but will occasionally spit when annoyed, though rarely at people. Pregnant alpacas are easily annoyed with the male, and will spit at them to go away.

I absolutely adore the ""Cherry"" alpaca shawl ! Thank you!
I recieved my green forest shawl today and it is more beautiful than I had imagined. This will be one of my favorites and I will be honored to wear it. Terrie Johnson

""Green Forest"" is a spinach green delicate shawl that drapes gracefully over a sweater, adding warmth without hiding your figure. The pattern is appealing, adding texture to your overall look. If it rains, just drape it over your head Madonna-style (mother of God Madonna). I am grateful this lovely shawl is mine and that I can combine it with all the black sweaters in my wardrobe. It is a subdued color that can also be worn with turquoise and aqua and beige.
Hello Jorge - I received your beautiful woven throw rug in the mail yesterday and I am absolutely delighted! The colours and the weaving are superb. I love and appreciate the work you've put into it. Thank you very much, the rug looks beautiful on our couch. Cheers,
The Nutmeg shawl is gorgeous! It looks great around the shoulders, is large enough to snuggle under in a cold theater, and yet is lightweight enough to wear looped around the neck a couple of times as a muffler. I would describe the color as a light golden camel that goes with just about anything. I will enjoy this for many years.
Hello Jorge, I am so very grateful for your patience in the creation and sharing of such a beautiful and warm shawl. I live in Australia and we do have cool winters so it is wonderful to be able to snuggle into such a beautiful and soft shawl. My thanks to you for being willing to share your skills.
I received a perfect Christmas gift today, and it is the most beautiful alpaca throw from the talented artist Jorge Priori. The fact that this beautiful piece of art arrived all the way from Peru even made it more special. Our living room is now much more elegant looking with the lovely throw draping down on the sofa. Jorge Priori's style is just so timeless that his creations would complement any decorating types -- from antique to modern. The package was also gift wrapped with a tiny Peruvian doll adding to the final touch! I'm very impressed with the unique art work, the careful packaging, and very fast delivery across the globe! Thank you! Jame New Zealand
The Green shawl really is like a whisper from the forest far away; it is very soft and delicate with a beautiful weave...perfect for the early morning and evening chill of summer giving way to Fall, which it will be when I am visiting family after many years, in England and Spain, end of August. I was very touched by the precious packing with postcard from Peru and a tiny doll on a bow that I shall use at Christmas and think of Jorge and the other artisans. I liked having the little booklet telling me about Jorge and look forward to the excuse to order more shawls for myself and my daughters and friends. The whole experience makes one feel connected and joyous to have helped in some small way through NOVICA
The brown geometric throw is absolutely stunning! I have ordered 3, gave two as presents and one for me. I just love the workmanship and detail. You could never find something like this locally and I live in New York. Thank you so much for all of your hard work! Paula

FINDING YOUR SIZE
Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.
BUST / CHEST
Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.
Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.
Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.
